How do I take an order on WhatsApp step by step?
Updated 30 September 2026
Collect the order details, reply with the total and ready time, and agree payment, all in one chat. The free WhatsApp Business app is enough to do it.
- If you have a catalog, customers can add items to a cart and send it to you as a message.
- Save your questions and replies as quick replies. You can store up to 50 and call one by typing “/”.
- You can create up to 20 labels to mark each order, for example Confirmed or Delivered.
- Paying inside WhatsApp works only in India, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia. Elsewhere, agree payment in the chat.
Orders arrive complete, ready to accept
With Menuthere the customer does the typing. They pick items from your menu, add their address and check out, and the complete order rings on your partner app for you to accept.
The six steps
- 1
The customer starts the chat
They message you from your WhatsApp link, QR code or Google listing.
- 2
Ask for the details
Send a saved quick reply asking for items, quantities, name, and address or pickup time.
- 3
Reply with the total and the time
List the items, the total and when it will be ready or delivered. Wait for a clear yes.
- 4
Agree payment
Say how they will pay, for example cash on delivery, or a payment inside WhatsApp where it is available.
- 5
Label the chat
Add a label such as Confirmed so you can find the order later.
- 6
Send updates
Tell the customer when the order is ready or on its way.
