For Dutch restaurants and takeaways

Online ordering system for restaurants and takeaways in the Netherlands

An online ordering system lets customers order and pay on your own website, so you keep the order and the customer. Menuthere gives restaurants, takeaways and cafés in the Netherlands one menu for collection, delivery and table orders, with prices in euro and 0% commission on every plan.

Free plan: 50 orders a month and 0% commission. Paid plans from US$17 a month. Find your restaurant on Google to start.

What it does

What an online ordering system does for a Dutch takeaway

It has two halves. The customer side is a mobile-friendly menu on your own link or domain: customers pick dishes, sizes and extras, choose collection or delivery, and pay by card or on collection. The kitchen side is where orders land, on a dashboard, a phone app and a kitchen printer, so staff can accept, cook and mark the order ready.

The difference from Thuisbezorgd.nl or Uber Eats is who owns the customer. On an app, the platform keeps the relationship and takes a share of every order. On your own system, the customer orders from you and you see their name and number. Most Dutch owners keep the apps for new customers and use their own page (an *online bestelsysteem*) for regulars.

  • 0% commission on every plan. Card payments go to your own Stripe account.
  • Euro prices with Dutch VAT set per dish: 9% on food, 21% on alcohol and some drinks.
  • Collection, delivery and table orders from one menu.

What the apps charge

What Uber Eats and Thuisbezorgd.nl charge in the Netherlands

Published or reported rates, checked in September and October 2026. Uber Eats adds 21% VAT to its fees; Thuisbezorgd.nl doesn't publish its rates. We found no legal cap on delivery-app commission in the Netherlands.

Delivery-app commission in the Netherlands by platform

Uber Eats30% (33% on Uber One orders)14% (12% on Uber One orders); 14% pickup€400 activation fee, once
Thuisbezorgd.nl30% (reported, 2022–2023)14% (since July 2022) + €0.21 per orderNo sign-up cost, plus admin costs set at sign-up

Thuisbezorgd.nl (a Just Eat Takeaway brand) doesn't publish its commission; the figures above come from Dutch press reports of its own statements, so check your agreement. Full breakdowns: Uber Eats commission in the Netherlands and Thuisbezorgd.nl commission in the Netherlands.

Worked example

300 orders a month at €25

An Amsterdam takeaway does 300 orders a month at an average of €25: €7,500 in sales. Here is what each channel costs in a month and a year. VAT on the Uber Eats fee is worked out at 21%.

Monthly and yearly cost of €7,500 of orders by channel
ChannelFeeVAT on fee (21%)Total a monthA year
Uber Eats delivers (30%)€2,250€472.50€2,722.50€32,670
Uber Eats, you deliver (14%)€1,050€220.50€1,270.50€15,246
Thuisbezorgd.nl delivers (30% + €0.21)€2,250 + €63No VAT published on feeabout €2,313about €27,756
Your own system (Menuthere Lite + Stripe standard EEA cards)US$17 plan + €168.75 card feesNo commission, so no VAT on commissionabout €168.75 + US$17about €2,025 + US$204 (or US$170 on yearly billing)

Stripe's standard rate for EEA cards is 1.5% + €0.25, so a €25 order costs €0.625. If you're VAT-registered you can usually reclaim the VAT on app fees, but the commission itself is gone.

Dutch VAT

Set the Netherlands' VAT rates dish by dish

The Dutch standard VAT (btw) rate is 21%, and a 9% reduced rate applies to food. Hot and cold food in hospitality is generally 9%, while alcoholic drinks and some other items are 21%. Menuthere lets each dish carry its own rate, so one bill can mix them. Set your VAT per dish.

Dutch VAT on a delivery order of €30.50, with prices including VAT
LinePrice (VAT included)VAT rateVAT inside the price
2 × shoarma box (food)€24.009%€1.98
1 × beer€3.5021%€0.61
Delivery fee€3.00set per store—
Total€30.50€2.59

In Menuthere, set the store rate to 9%, mark dishes Tax Inclusive and give alcohol and standard-rated drinks a 21% rate. Menuthere doesn't add VAT to the delivery fee line, so set your delivery fee as a VAT-inclusive amount and ask your accountant how to record it. A combination deal that mixes 9% food and 21% drink at one price has to be split between the two rates. See tax and VAT settings.

How it works

How Menuthere's online ordering system works

  1. 1

    Find your business on Google

Menuthere pulls your name, address and photos from your Google listing. Set the currency to EUR and the timezone to Amsterdam.

  2. 2

    Import your menu

Upload a photo or PDF and the AI reads in the dishes and prices. Sizes, add-ons and sold-out marking are built in. Moving from GloriaFood? Import that menu directly; it closes on 30 April 2027.

  3. 3

    Choose order types

Collection, delivery and dine-in table orders, all from one menu.

  4. 4

    Set up payments

Cash or pay on collection on Free. Your own Stripe account for card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay on Lite and above.

  5. 5

    Share your link

On your Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, flyers and receipts. Print the free QR codes for the counter and tables.

  6. 6

    Take orders

Each order rings on the partner app until someone accepts it, or switch on auto-accept. Tickets print to your kitchen printer.

Dutch rules

Dutch rules your online menu has to follow

Allergen information. Under EU Regulation 1169/2011, as enforced in the Netherlands by the NVWA, you must make allergen information available for food that isn't prepacked, including food sold for delivery and collection. For distance (online and phone) orders the information must be available before the purchase is completed, at no extra cost, and again when the food is delivered. On Menuthere, tag the 14 allergens on each dish on every plan, including Free, and customers see them when they open the dish. Add a printed allergen sheet to delivery bags too: make one with the allergen chart maker.

Prices including VAT. Dutch and EU consumer rules require prices shown to consumers to include VAT (btw) and any unavoidable charges, so the price a customer sees is the price they pay. State any service, minimum-order or delivery charge clearly before checkout.

No card surcharges. Under the EU payment services rules (PSD2), businesses in the Netherlands can't add a surcharge for paying by consumer debit or credit card. Build card costs into your prices rather than adding a fee at checkout.

  • Allergen information before the order and at delivery
  • Prices in euro, VAT (btw) included
  • No card surcharges under EU PSD2

Card payments

Taking card payments with Stripe in the Netherlands

Stripe is available in the Netherlands, so customers pay by card into your own Stripe account. Menuthere never touches your money. Stripe charges its own fee, with no setup or monthly fee on standard pricing, and Menuthere adds nothing on top. Currency conversion adds 2%.

Stripe Netherlands card fees on a €25 order and on 300 orders a month
Card typeStripe Netherlands ratePer €25 order300 orders a month
Standard EEA cards1.5% + €0.25€0.63€187.50
Premium EEA cards1.9% + €0.25€0.73€217.50
UK cards2.5% + €0.25€0.88€262.50
International cards3.25% + €0.25€1.06€318.75

Most Dutch customers pay with standard EEA cards. Apple Pay and Google Pay run through Stripe at the same card rates once you switch them on. Confirm current rates on Stripe's Netherlands pricing page before you sign.

Questions owners ask

Answered, plainly.

It depends on your size and how long a contract you'll sign. For most independents, look for 0% commission, no long contract, card payments into your own account and allergen information on the menu. Menuthere ticks those boxes and has a free plan. Square Online suits restaurants already on Square, and Deliverect suits chains that want to manage several platforms and channels from one place on a per-quote contract.

From free to €89 or more a month per site, and some providers also take a fee on every order. Menuthere is free for 50 orders a month and US$17 a month (roughly €16) for unlimited orders. Stripe charges 1.5% + €0.25 per standard EEA card on top.

Food in hospitality, hot and cold, is generally at the 9% reduced VAT (btw) rate. Alcoholic drinks and some other items are at the 21% standard rate. In Menuthere you set the VAT rate per dish, so one order can mix 9% food and 21% drinks.

Yes. Under EU Regulation 1169/2011, enforced in the Netherlands by the NVWA, allergen information for food that isn't prepacked must be available. For online and phone orders it must be available before the purchase is completed and again at delivery. Menuthere lets you tag the 14 allergens on each dish on every plan.

No. Under the EU payment services rules (PSD2), you can't add a surcharge for paying by consumer debit or credit card. Build card costs into your prices.

Not with Menuthere. It takes 0% on every plan. Stripe charges its normal card fee into your own account.

Yes. Many owners keep the apps for new customers and use Menuthere for direct orders at 0% commission. Menuthere doesn't pull app orders into one screen.
