For Swiss restaurants and takeaways

Online ordering system for restaurants and takeaways in Switzerland

An online ordering system lets customers order and pay on your own website, so you keep the order and the customer. Menuthere gives restaurants, takeaways and cafés in Switzerland one menu for pickup, delivery and table orders, with prices in Swiss francs and 0% commission on every plan.

Free plan: 50 orders a month and 0% commission. Paid plans from US$17 a month (about CHF 14), billed in US dollars. Find your restaurant on Google to start.

What it does

What an online ordering system does for a Swiss restaurant

It has two halves. The customer side is a mobile-friendly menu on your own link or domain: customers pick dishes, sizes and extras, choose pickup or delivery, and pay by card, TWINT or on collection. The kitchen side is where orders land, on a dashboard, a phone app and a kitchen printer, so staff can accept, cook and mark the order ready.

The difference from Uber Eats, Just Eat (the former Eat.ch) or Smood is who owns the customer. On an app, the platform keeps the relationship and takes a share of every order. On your own system, the customer orders from you and you see their name and number. Most Swiss owners keep the apps for new customers and use their own page for regulars.

  • 0% commission on every plan. Card and TWINT payments go to your own Stripe account.
  • Swiss franc prices with VAT set per dish: 2.6% on takeaway food, 8.1% on dine-in restaurant service.
  • Pickup, delivery and table orders from one menu.

What the apps charge

What Uber Eats charges in Switzerland

Published Uber Eats rates, checked in September 2026. Just Eat (the rebranded Eat.ch) and Smood also operate in Switzerland, but Uber Eats is the one with a sourced commission breakdown. Unusually, no VAT is added to Uber's fees to restaurants: under Switzerland's platform-VAT rule (Art. 20a of the VAT Act), Uber Eats is the deemed seller and pays the VAT itself.

Card processing is included in Uber's commission, and its terms say no VAT is added to those fees. Full breakdown: Uber Eats commission in Switzerland. Just Eat and Smood don't publish restaurant rates, so check your agreement.

Worked example

300 orders a month at CHF 40

A Zürich restaurant does 300 orders a month at an average of CHF 40: CHF 12,000 in sales. Here is what each channel costs in a month and a year. Uber's fees carry no VAT in Switzerland, so there is no VAT line to add back.

Monthly and yearly cost of CHF 12,000 of orders by channel
ChannelFee a monthA year
Uber Eats delivers (32%)CHF 3,840CHF 46,080
Uber Eats, you deliver (15%)CHF 1,800CHF 21,600
Uber Eats pickup (15%)CHF 1,800CHF 21,600
Your own system (Menuthere Lite + Stripe Switzerland cards)about CHF 438 card fees + US$17 planabout CHF 5,256 + US$204 (or US$170 on yearly billing)

Stripe Switzerland's standard rate is about 2.9% + CHF 0.30, so a CHF 40 order costs about CHF 1.46 (CHF 438 across 300 orders). Uber's fees aren't subject to VAT in Switzerland, so there's no VAT on commission to reclaim — but the commission itself is gone. The CHF figures convert the US-dollar plan at a rough rate; your bank sets the exact amount.

Swiss VAT (MWST/TVA)

Set Switzerland's VAT rates dish by dish

Switzerland's standard VAT rate is 8.1%, with a reduced rate of 2.6% on food. Takeaway food (to take away or deliver) is at 2.6%, while dine-in restaurant and catering service is at the standard 8.1%. Menuthere lets each dish carry its own rate, so one bill can mix takeaway and dine-in lines.

TotalCHF 46.00CHF 1.43

In Menuthere, set each dish's rate: 2.6% for takeaway and delivered food, 8.1% for dine-in restaurant service, and mark prices Tax Inclusive. Menuthere doesn't add VAT to the delivery fee line, so set the delivery fee as a VAT-inclusive amount and ask your fiduciaire how to record it. Swiss menus carry trilingual labels (German/French/Italian). See tax and VAT settings.

How it works

How Menuthere's online ordering system works

  1. 1

    Find your business on Google

Menuthere pulls your name, address and photos from your Google listing. Set the currency to CHF and the timezone to Zürich.

  2. 2

    Import your menu

Upload a photo or PDF and the AI reads in the dishes and prices. Sizes, add-ons and sold-out marking are built in. Moving from GloriaFood? Import that menu directly; it closes on 30 April 2027.

  3. 3

    Choose order types

Pickup, delivery and dine-in table orders, all from one menu.

  4. 4

    Set up payments

Cash or pay on collection on Free. Your own Stripe account for card payments, TWINT, Apple Pay and Google Pay on Lite and above.

  5. 5

    Share your link

On your Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, flyers and receipts. Print the free QR codes for the counter and tables.

  6. 6

    Take orders

Each order rings on the partner app until someone accepts it, or switch on auto-accept. Tickets print to your kitchen printer.

Swiss rules

Swiss rules your online menu has to follow

Trilingual food labelling. Switzerland's foodstuffs law requires product information in at least one official language of the point of sale — in practice many labels appear in German, French and Italian. Keep dish names and key information clear in the language(s) your customers read.

Allergen information. Swiss food law requires the 14 main allergens to be declared, including for food that isn't prepacked, with the information available to the customer. On Menuthere, tag allergens on each dish on every plan, including Free, so the information is on the menu before the order is placed.

Price indication, VAT included. Switzerland's Price Indication Ordinance requires prices shown to consumers to be the actual price to pay, VAT included. Show your menu prices inclusive of MWST/TVA so the price on the page is the price at checkout.

No card surcharges. Keep card costs built into your prices rather than adding a separate surcharge at checkout. Stripe's fee comes out of the settlement, not off a surcharge line.

  • Trilingual labelling (German/French/Italian) where it applies
  • Allergen information available before the order
  • Prices in CHF, VAT (MWST/TVA) included
  • No card surcharge at checkout

Card and TWINT payments

Taking card and TWINT payments with Stripe in Switzerland

Switzerland isn't in the EU or EEA, but Stripe is available in Switzerland, so card checkout runs on your own Stripe account. Menuthere never touches your money and adds nothing on top of Stripe's fee. Stripe Switzerland also supports TWINT, Switzerland's main mobile wallet, so you can offer it alongside cards. Confirm current rates on Stripe's Swiss pricing page before you rely on them.

Questions owners ask

Answered, plainly.

It depends on your size and how long a contract you'll sign. For most independents, look for 0% commission, no long contract, card and TWINT payments into your own account, and allergen information on the menu. Menuthere ticks those boxes and has a free plan. Square Online suits restaurants already on Square, and Swiss-market providers such as Smoothr suit larger sites.

From free to several tens of francs a month per site, and some delivery apps also take a large share of every order. Menuthere is free for 50 orders a month and US$17 a month (about CHF 14) for unlimited orders. Stripe charges about 2.9% + CHF 0.30 per card on top, with TWINT supported too.

Takeaway food (to take away or be delivered) is at the reduced 2.6% rate, while dine-in restaurant and catering service is at the standard 8.1% rate. In Menuthere you set each dish's rate, so one bill can mix 2.6% takeaway lines with 8.1% dine-in service.

Yes. Swiss food law requires the 14 main allergens to be declared, including for non-prepacked food, with the information available to the customer. Menuthere lets you tag the 14 allergens on each dish on every plan, including Free, so it's on the menu before the order.

Yes. Switzerland isn't in the EU or EEA, but Stripe is available in Switzerland, and Stripe supports TWINT there alongside cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. On Lite and above, payments go to your own Stripe account and Stripe pays you directly.

Uber Eats charges 32% when it delivers (35% on Uber One orders), 15% when you deliver (13% on Uber One orders) and 15% on pickup, plus a one-off CHF 600 activation fee, with card processing included. No VAT is added to those fees: under Switzerland's platform-VAT rule (Art. 20a), Uber Eats is the deemed seller and pays the VAT itself. See the Uber Eats Switzerland commission page.

Yes. Many owners keep the apps for new customers and use Menuthere for direct orders at 0% commission. Menuthere doesn't pull app orders into one screen.

Not with Menuthere. It takes 0% on every plan. Stripe charges its normal card or TWINT fee.
