The 10 best online ordering systems for restaurants in Japan.
Restaurants in Japan take orders on their own websites, apps and tables through local and regional systems such as Square Online, STORES モバイルオーダー and スマレジ (Smaregi). Of the 9 systems compared here besides Menuthere, 4 say they take no commission on orders and 4 have a free plan; the rest charge a monthly fee or quote per restaurant.
Menuthere publishes this list and makes one of the systems on it (number 3). Every figure comes from the companies' own pages, dated and listed on each system's page. How we ranked them is at the foot of the page.

Contract
No locked-in contract; cancel or switch plans anytime (US pricing page and General Terms). Outside the US, paid Square Online plans are priced per month billed annually, with a different price if paid monthly, and plans can be switched at any time.
Takeout Order: no contract term, cancel any time. Table Order: one-year contract paid monthly (¥11,000 on a monthly contract); no cancellation mid-term unless STORES agrees, service stops at the next renewal, and fees are not refunded. The plan terms renew contracts automatically unless the restaurant declines before the term ends.
Month to month; 7-day free trial on Lite and Pro
One-year term from the start date, renewing automatically a year at a time unless notice is given 2 months before the end. The customer can cancel mid-term by notice, but fees already paid are not refunded and charges already incurred stay due (Smaregi terms of use, articles 7 and 8).
One-year contract from the month of application, renewing automatically a year at a time. No change of term or cancellation mid-contract, fees are not refunded, and notice must reach Recruit by the 1st of the month before the renewal month (Airレジ オーダー terms, articles 3 and 6).
Fixed term set by the plan, renewing automatically on the same terms unless the restaurant declines at least one month before the end; no cancellation mid-term and fees are not refunded (PICKS seller terms, last updated 2 February 2022). KAERUN's listing gives the Standard plan as a one-year contract.
Not published. The equipment-offer terms say a penalty may be charged, as set out in the application form, if the offer's conditions are broken.
No contract needed for the free plan (funfo press release, July 2025). Paid plans are billed monthly (renewing each month) or yearly (renewing each year, 10% off). Some customers signed up through campaigns are on 2-year contracts (funfo price notice).
The term is set by Okage in monthly units and renews automatically on the same terms unless either side says otherwise 30 days before it ends. The restaurant cancels with 30 days' notice (Okage terms, articles 13 and 14). Monthly fees are normally paid by bank direct debit (FAQ).
Not published. POS+ is sold after a quote and a signed contract; POSTAS says about a month from application to going live is typical.

Restaurants and cafés already on Square POS in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, Japan, France or Spain that want a free, commission-free ordering page
Square Online is Square's ordering website and online store builder: a restaurant gets an ordering page (in the US called an online ordering profile) whose orders go straight into Square POS, the kitchen printer or Square KDS. It is for restaurants, cafés, bakeries and food trucks that use Square payments in the 8 countries Square serves. The Free plan has no monthly fee and no commission, only Square's card processing fee per order; paid plans (in the US, Square Plus from $49 a month per location) add QR table ordering, loyalty and email marketing, and in the US a lower online card rate.

Square processes every online payment itself: credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Cash App Pay in the US; Square Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Afterpay in Australia and Canada; Square Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Clearpay in the UK. The restaurant needs a Square account.
Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · POS · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations · Reservations
Free plan with no monthly fee and no commission on direct orders; the restaurant pays only Square's card processing fee (Square online ordering page and plan pages).
Online orders arrive in Square POS and go to the kitchen printer or Square KDS, and menus, items and stock stay in sync between online and in-store sales (Square online ordering pages).
Pickup (including curbside), delivery by the restaurant's own staff with postal-code or radius zones and distance-based fees, or on-demand couriers (DoorDash or another courier Square picks in the US, DoorDash in Canada, Stuart in the UK); customers can schedule orders days ahead (Square help centre, Canada and UK pages).
Online payments go through Square at Square's rates; in the US the Free plan charges 3.3% + 30¢ per online card payment, against 2.9% + 30¢ on paid plans (Square pricing page).
QR table ordering, loyalty, email marketing and a custom domain need a paid plan: Square Plus at $49 a month per location in the US; in Australia QR ordering and pre-orders need Plus at A$36 a month, billed annually (Square pricing and plan pages).
Only available in the 8 countries Square serves (Square About page).
Small cafes and restaurants in Japan, especially those already on STORES レジ or STORES 決済, that want free takeout pre-orders or low-cost QR table ordering
STORES モバイルオーダー (STORES Mobile Order) is the ordering service of STORES, Inc., the Tokyo company behind the STORES POS, card payments, online shop and booking tools. It gives cafes and restaurants in Japan a takeout pre-order site to link from their website, Instagram or Google Business Profile, plus QR table ordering with staff handhelds and a kitchen display, all linked to the STORES レジ POS. Takeout ordering has no setup or monthly fee and costs 3.6% + ¥10 per order in payment fees, while table ordering costs from ¥7,700 a month per store including tax on a one-year contract.

Online payments
Pay-at-order payments (all takeout orders, and table orders paid up front) go through STORES' own mobile-order payment system after a card acceptance review: Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners and PayPay balance. The pricing page lists only online payment at the time of ordering for takeout. Table orders can instead be paid after the meal at the register (Standard plan required) in cash, through STORES 決済 (cards, e-money, QR codes) or the restaurant's existing card terminal.
Takeout ordering has no setup fee and no monthly fee: the only cost is the 3.6% + ¥10 payment fee per order, and it can be cancelled at any time (STORES モバイルオーダー pricing page).
Table ordering (from ¥7,700 a month per store) also works as staff handheld ordering, with table management and a kitchen display that runs on an iPad or an Android tablet; kitchen printer linking is free (pricing, product and functions pages; kitchen display devices help article).
Orders and stock sync with the STORES レジ POS and sold-out items stop automatically; coupons and segmented emails come at no extra cost, and sales reports, CSV export and freee accounting links are built-in features (product and functions pages).
The ¥7,700 table-ordering price needs a one-year contract that cannot be cancelled mid-term, with no refunds (¥11,000 a month on a monthly contract), and plan contracts renew automatically (pricing page and STORES plan terms, article 11). Table ordering launched free in August 2025 and now carries the monthly fee (STORES press release, 7 August 2025).
Takeout orders are paid online at a fixed 3.6% + ¥10, and paying after the meal at the register needs the STORES Standard plan at ¥3,300 a month on top of Table Order (pricing page).
Sales are paid out once a month, at the end of the following month, less a ¥275 transfer fee; getting paid the next day costs an extra 3.5% (1.5% on the Standard plan) (help centre).

Restaurants in Japan that want an iPad cloud POS, staff handhelds and QR mobile ordering from one company for a flat monthly fee
スマレジ (Smaregi) is an iPad and iPhone cloud POS from Osaka-based Smaregi, Inc., sold to shops and restaurants in Japan; its Mobile Order feature lets guests order on their own phones, at the table through a QR code (paid at the register) or paid in advance for takeaway and food courts. Restaurants pay a flat monthly fee per store: the Food Business plan (¥15,400 a month including tax) includes QR table ordering and handheld order entry, while pre-paid ordering is an app-market add-on for Premium Plus (¥8,800) or higher whose price is not shown on the product page. The free Standard plan has no mobile ordering.

Pre-paid Mobile Order (takeaway, food courts): Apple Pay, credit cards and PayPay through another company's payment service, after merchant screening. Credit cards are ready in about two weeks, then PayPay and Apple Pay are screened; one-time payments only; e-money is not accepted. Payouts come twice a month for cards and Apple Pay and once a month for PayPay. In-store table orders are paid at the Smaregi register, where the PAYGATE multi-payment terminal takes cards, e-money and QR code payments.
Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Online payments · POS · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Multiple locations · Menu translation · Reservations
Prices are published: the Food Business plan costs ¥15,400 a month per store including tax and includes pay-later QR mobile ordering, order entry on iPhone or iPad handhelds (up to 5 per store) and kitchen ticket printing (Smaregi price page and Food Business plan page).
One Mobile Order system covers both in-store table orders, paid at the register, and pre-paid takeaway or food-court orders with Apple Pay, credit cards or PayPay (Smaregi Mobile Order page and help centre).
The guest menu can be shown in English, Traditional Chinese, Spanish and Korean, and menu books switch automatically by time of day, such as morning, lunch and dinner (Smaregi Mobile Order page).
Mobile ordering is not on the free plan: pay-later table QR ordering needs the ¥15,400 Food Business plan, and pre-paid ordering needs Premium Plus (¥8,800) or higher plus the Mobile Order app from Smaregi's app market, whose price is not shown on the Mobile Order page (Smaregi price page, Mobile Order page and help centre).
A one-year contract that renews automatically unless notice is given 2 months before the end; cancelling mid-term does not refund fees already paid (Smaregi terms of use).
Pre-paid orders need merchant screening that takes several weeks, the online payment rate is not published, and orders are eat-in or takeaway collected at the counter against a claim number, with no delivery option (Smaregi Mobile Order page and help centre).
Restaurants in Japan on the Airレジ POS that want QR table ordering and staff handhelds on iPhone and iPad
Airレジ オーダー (AirREGI Order) is Recruit's ordering system for restaurants in Japan: QR table ordering from guests' phones, a staff handheld app, a kitchen display and a takeaway pre-order website, all linked to Recruit's free Airレジ POS. It is sold to Japanese restaurants, izakaya, bars and cafes from about 10 seats to over 100. In-store plans are a flat monthly fee on a one-year contract (¥17,600 a month including tax for QR ordering), while the takeaway pre-order site has no monthly fee but charges a 3% order fee plus a 3.24% card fee.

3% order fee on takeaway pre-orders paid through Mobile Order outside the store (plus the 3.24% card fee). No per-order fee is published on the monthly in-store plans.
Online payments
Takeaway pre-orders must be paid online at the time of ordering through Airペイ オンライン, Recruit's online payment service (separate from the Airペイ card terminal; merchant application required): Visa, Mastercard, JCB and American Express at 3.24%. Guests ordering at the table can pay online from their phone once the restaurant has applied separately, or pay at the Airレジ register with the methods the store accepts, such as Recruit's Airペイ terminal for cards, e-money and QR codes.
Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Scheduled orders · Online payments · POS · Menu translation · Reservations
Prices are published: QR table ordering with a kitchen display costs ¥17,600 a month including tax with no setup fee, and the takeaway pre-order site has no setup or fixed monthly fee (Airレジ オーダー plan guide).
Orders from staff handhelds, guests' phones and the pre-order site flow into Recruit's Airレジ POS, which has no setup, monthly or support fee, so nothing is re-keyed at checkout; the Handy also shows the day's bookings from Recruit's レストランボード reservation app (Airレジ オーダー features and Mobile Order pages).
New applicants for the in-store Mobile Order plans can get a device set (iPad, iPhone 16e, receipt printer and cash drawer) free and the first year's monthly fee at ¥0, for applications until 31 March 2027, subject to screening (Airレジ オーダー offer page).
A one-year contract that renews automatically; it cannot be cancelled mid-term and fees are not refunded (Airレジ オーダー terms).
The takeaway pre-order site charges a 3% order fee plus a 3.24% card fee, takes same-day pickup orders only (no delivery), and may not sell alcohol (Airレジ オーダー plan guide, features page and terms).
It runs on Apple devices: the Handy is an iOS app and the Kitchen Monitor an iPad app, QR table ordering needs at least one Handy, and the Kitchen Printer plans add a ¥110,000 setup fee and need a fibre internet line (Airレジ オーダー plan guide and offer page).
Restaurant chains in Japan that want their own branded takeaway pre-order website or app with stamp cards and coupons
PICKS is DIRIGIO's mobile ordering platform in Japan. It builds a restaurant's own takeaway and delivery ordering website, branded iOS/Android app or LINE mini app, with coupons, stamp cards and points, and can also list the store on the Picks takeaway marketplace app. It serves single shops up to national chains such as Subway Japan and Origin Bento; prices are quote-only today, and the archived December 2023 pricing page combined a setup or monthly fee with a 4.29% to 14.3% fee on each order.
Price

Not published today. The archived December 2023 plans charged 14.3% (Light), 6.6% (Standard) or 4.29% (Professional) of each order, and DIRIGIO's December 2023 release describes its pricing as a subscription combined with a fee; a 2022 help-centre article gave DIRIGIO's fee as 11% down to 0.99%.
Online payments
Orders are paid online by credit card at the time of ordering; a 2020 help article says cash and paying at the counter are not possible, while the 2025 help centre lists a pay-in-store function (店頭決済機能) as an add-on to apply for. The Picks consumer app says card payments run through PAY.JP, and the help centre says identity documents are used for Stripe's merchant review. DIRIGIO pays sales out monthly (month-end close, paid at the end of the following month); months under ¥10,000 are carried over for up to three months.
Includes: Own ordering website · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Multiple locations
Several ways to take orders under the restaurant's own name: an ordering website (Picks Original Web), a branded iOS/Android app (Picks App), a LINE mini app (Picks for LINE) and an API service (Picks Connect), plus a listing on the Picks takeaway marketplace (DIRIGIO press release, December 2023).
Used by large Japanese chains: Subway Japan's mobile ordering runs on it at 110 stores from June 2025 and Origin Bento extended it to 384 stores in 2024; DIRIGIO says more than 6,500 restaurants have used it (DIRIGIO news and PR TIMES release).
Loyalty and marketing tools are part of the product: coupons, stamp cards, rewards, points, e-gift integration and push notifications; the stamp card is free to add and can also stamp orders placed outside PICKS by QR code (start.picks.fun home, marketing and brand-app pages; help centre).
Prices are no longer published: the pricing page was removed and restaurants must request a quote; every plan on the archived December 2023 pricing page took a 4.29% to 14.3% fee on each order.
Fixed-term contract that renews automatically; it cannot be cancelled mid-term and fees are not refunded (PICKS seller terms, section 23 and section 10).
By default the ordering site sits on a DIRIGIO-managed domain and the app is published from DIRIGIO's Apple and Google developer accounts, with design and functions set uniformly by DIRIGIO; using the restaurant's own domain or accounts needs DIRIGIO's approval (PICKS seller terms, section 7). A fully custom design is offered separately (order page).
Izakaya, yakiniku and other multi-store restaurant groups in Japan that want table QR ordering, POS and LINE-based repeat-customer marketing from one vendor
ダイニー (dinii) is a Japanese restaurant system built around QR table ordering. Guests scan a fixed table QR code and order on their own phone from a menu with photos and videos; guests who use LINE become members of the restaurant's LINE account. It also offers a linked POS, customer CRM, card payment on the phone, a reservation book and staff scheduling. It is sold to restaurants in Japan, from single shops to large chains, and Dinii says it is used in 3,000 stores. Prices are quote-only. Card payment on the guest's phone costs 2.48% for Visa and Mastercard and 3.10% for JCB and Diners Club.

ダイニーモバイル決済 (Dinii Mobile Payment) lets guests pay the bill by card on the mobile-order screen (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners Club). It works only together with Dinii Mobile Order, and the product pages do not name the processor behind it. Guests can still pay cash or by card terminal at the register. Dinii also sells ダイニーキャッシュレス (Dinii Cashless), which must be taken with Dinii POS; Dinii's September 2024 press release says it runs on Adyen's online and in-person payments.
One vendor for the whole shop: QR table ordering, POS register, staff handhelds, kitchen display, customer CRM, card payment on the guest's phone, a reservation book and staff scheduling, with a head-office dashboard comparing every store (Dinii home page, product pages and FAQ).
Every table order can build a customer record: guests who order through LINE become members of the restaurant's LINE account, staff see each guest's visit and order history on the handheld, and the restaurant can send segmented LINE messages and coupons and run a member-rank loyalty program (Dinii Mobile Order and CRM pages).
The guest menu translates automatically into Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean from the phone's language setting, can show photos and videos for every item, and lets guests add a 0–25% tip or send a tip to a favourite staff member (Dinii Mobile Order page).
No published prices: setup and monthly fees depend on the products and plan and need a quote (Dinii FAQ). A guide by the LINE-tools company L Message (first published 2021, updated February 2026) lists dinii from ¥300,000 setup, which it says covers the register tablet, printers, cash drawer and handheld phones, and from ¥40,000 a month. Dinii does not publish or confirm these figures.
Built for eating in: the product pages describe fixed table QR codes, staff handhelds and kitchen printers, but no takeaway or delivery ordering website (Dinii Mobile Order page and FAQ).
Needs stable in-store Wi-Fi, a wired LAN cable for the kitchen printer and an internet line that works over IPv4; guest Wi-Fi may also be needed. Going live takes about two weeks to a month from sign-up (Dinii home page, FAQ and campaign terms).

A free plan covers the POS and mobile ordering on one device; paid plans cost ¥7,700 to ¥19,800 a month per store from 1 October 2026. There is no per-order commission, but online payments carry a 3.35–3.95% fee.

funfo's own mobile order payment takes cards and app payments at the table (pay when ordering or when leaving), at the counter and on FunPage, with up to 20 payment types, for 3.35–3.95% per payment. funfo's FAQ says approval can take one to two months because of card-company screening. funfo pays sales out twice a month by bank transfer, and the store pays the transfer fee. In the store, funfo links with Square Reader, Square Terminal and Square Stand, and the help centre also covers linking stera pack terminals.

A free plan with no setup fee includes the iPad POS, QR table ordering, counter-pickup ordering and a FunPage takeaway and delivery site, with no limit on menu items or QR-ordering tables (funfo pricing page and FAQ).
No per-order commission: payments taken in the store carry no funfo fee, and store-staff delivery through FunPage has no setup or monthly fee (funfo FAQ and delivery page).
The guest menu shows in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean, supports video, and handles all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink menus with time limits and last orders (funfo menu page and FAQ).
It runs only on iPad: at least one iPad (iOS 15 or later) is required, iPhones work only as handhelds, and there is no Android or Windows version (funfo FAQ).
Prices rise on 1 October 2026: the cheapest paid plan goes from ¥5,500 to ¥7,700 a month (Lite AI), Business from ¥11,000 to ¥13,200 and Business Plus from ¥16,500 to ¥19,800 (One AI), which funfo attributes to the weak yen (funfo notice, 17 September 2026).
Online payments cost 3.35–3.95% each, funfo's FAQ says approval can take one to two months because of card-company screening, and sales are paid out twice a month with a ¥250 or ¥300 bank transfer fee per payout (funfo home page, FAQ and help centre).

It sells to independent restaurants, chains, hotels, staff canteens and event venues. Prices are modular and exclude tax: QR table ordering is ¥5,000 a month for up to 5 tables on top of the ¥5,000 register and handheld fee, takeaway pre-ordering takes 3% of each order plus payment fees and needs a ¥1,000-a-month order screen, and hardware is extra.

At the register, handhelds and kiosks, Okage links to the PayCAS terminal (SB C&S, from 1.98%), stera terminal (Sumitomo Mitsui Card), STORES決済 (from 1.98%, self-checkout) and TIS's PAYCIERGE QR-payment gateway.

QR table ordering also needs the ¥5,000-a-month register and handheld service plus bought hardware. The simulator's example starts at ¥174,400 upfront and ¥11,000 a month, excluding tax (Okage service simulator).
It runs mainly on Apple iOS devices, needs a fixed fibre internet line (no mobile Wi-Fi or ADSL) and stops working when the internet is down. Only printers and drawers bought from Okage are supported (Okage FAQ).
Restaurants and chains in Japan that want QR table ordering, takeaway pre-ordering and a POS from one vendor, with on-site installation and support
POS+ (ポスタス) is POSTAS's cloud iPad POS for restaurants in Japan, with ordering add-ons: QR ordering from guests' phones at the table (POS+ self order), pre-order and pay for takeaway or eat-in through a web page, a LINE mini-app or the store's own app (POS+ order & pay), table tablets (POS+ TTO) and self-checkout kiosks (POS+ selfregi). It is sold to single restaurants and chains after a quote, a site survey and on-site installation. Prices for the ordering add-ons are not published; the only public price is ¥3,000 a month with no setup fee for its smartphone POS with POS+ Pay card payments, which does not include customer ordering.

Online payments
POS+ order & pay takes payment when the customer orders ahead (web, LINE mini-app or POS+ connect app); the processor is not named on the product page. POS+ self order can take online payment on the guest's phone only after the restaurant signs a separate contract with a payment agency and pays its fees; guests can also pay staff at the POS or at a self-checkout. In store, POSTAS's own POS+ Pay handles credit cards, e-money and QR-code payments on the stera terminal or JT-VT10, and POS+ also links to terminals such as PAYCAS Mobile, VEGA3000 and verifone400.
Several ways to order on one POS: QR ordering from guests' phones, pre-order and pay for takeaway or eat-in by web, LINE mini-app or app, table tablets and self-checkout kiosks, with orders sent straight to the POS and kitchen (POS+ self-order pages).
Guest ordering screens in Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Korean, with Vietnamese as well on the table tablets; QR ordering asks for an age check when alcohol is ordered, and the table tablets show drink-driving and underage-drinking warnings (POS+ self order and POS+ TTO pages).
Support includes set-up help and staff training, a 365-day call centre, unlimited on-site visits and a hardware warranty of up to five years (POS+ food and customer support pages).
No prices are published for the ordering add-ons or the POS: the monthly fee depends on what you use and is given in a downloadable PDF or a quote (POS+ FAQ).
It needs POSTAS's own set-up: an up-to-date iPad, a fibre internet line with a provider contract, and an access point of a model POSTAS specifies, which the restaurant must buy; the POS+ connect app only works together with the POS+ food POS (POS+ FAQ and POS+ connect page).
Online payment inside QR ordering needs a separate contract with a payment agency and its fees on top (POS+ self order page).
Whether restaurants in Japan can sign up and use it today: a local site, local pricing, local customers or a sign-up open to any country.
What it costs a small restaurant: the monthly price, any commission or per-order fee, and contracts.
What it does for ordering: your own website, QR table ordering, delivery, pickup and payments.
Menuthere is on the list because it is a real option here, and we put it where its strengths — no commission and a free plan — fit; its limits (such as payments outside India) are stated in its entry.
Nobody paid to be on this list. Prices change: check each company's own page before you sign.
